This manual is for use with the original version of the Hierarchic Dementia Scale (HDS).

If you have the revised version of the assessment (HDS-R) you will need the Possibility Oriented Approach manual.

The Possibility Oriented Care is an approach to interpreting the results of the Hierarchic Dementia Scale and caring for people with dementia, developed by Heather Freegard through the WA Dementia Training Study Centre. It assists the user in developing person-centred care plans and interventions based on their remaining cognitive abilities.
