The WA Dementia Training Study Centre (WA DTSC) will be holding half day pilot training workshops for health professionals interested in using the new Cultural Assessment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.

The workshops are for health professionals working in residential aged care facilities, particularly those responsible for assessing Aboriginal people living with dementia.

Workshop objectives:

  • Understand the need for holistic assessment of people with dementia
  • Consider the specific needs of Aboriginal people with dementia
  • Demonstrate the impact of historical events and government policies on the life experiences of Aboriginal people
  • Complete the new DTSC Cultural Assessment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.

Participants are encouraged to watch a 30 minute DVD and read the “The Story Behind the Story” booklet prior to attending the workshop.
