Homelessness and Dementia

Homelessness and Dementia

SA/NT DTSC recently conducted a seminar on homelessness and dementia. Clare Beard from Alzheimer’s Australia,South Australia presented on the Homelessness and Dementia Project she manages. Dr Alice Rota Bartelink, presented on the issues faced by older people living with cognitive impairment while experiencing homelessness or housing instability and, Wintringham’s Wicking Project which has been trialling a specialised residential model of service delivery to this population.

A video exploring the link between dementia and the social causes of homelessness, that both presenters were involved in, was launched at the seminar. The video produced by Alzheimer’s Australia South Australia (AASA)  is available on YouTube and also as a DVD.

QLD DTSC is planning a similar workshop in the first half of 2016. Watch for DTSC Events updates

A DTSC Literature Review and a Report by the National Ageing Research Institute (NARI) for the VIC/TAS DTSC on Dementia and Homelessness were both released earlier this year and can be downloaded here.
