How hospitals can improve care for people with dementia

Improving how Hospitals deliver Care to People with Cognitive Impairment: What Strategies are available?

Over 80,000 people with dementia are admitted to hospital each year in Australia and 94% are admitted for health conditions other than dementia.

Although, hospitalised people with dementia experience high rates of adverse events and an average length of stay double that of people without dementia, dementia is not prioritised by hospitals as a co-morbidity requiring a specialised approach to care.

The Presenter explores strategies that hospitals can confidently implement to improve care practices while awaiting the results of further research.
