Genetics of dementia

Genetics of dementia

The APOE gene is mapped to chromosome 19 and codes for a protein which has an important role in lipoprotein metabolism. The ε4 polymorphism of the APOE gene confers a substantially increased risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. However, the influence of the ε4 allele on cognitive functioning in ageing individuals is more contentious. This is the focus of the current presentation.

A presentation by Professor Jonathan Foster, Clinical Neuropsychologist, Senior Research Fellow, School of Psychology and Speech Pathology, Curtin University on 10 April, 2014.
