WA seminar, August 2011 – Creating Enabling Environments

A WADTSC seminar presenation by Jason Burton, manager, Research and Consultancy Services, Alzheimer’s Association WA on 30 August 2011.

There is a growing evidence base of the effect the built environment has on people living with dementia. This seminar discusses current research findings and offers practical information and advice on adapting indoor and outdoor built environments to support wellbeing in people with dementia. The audience is challenged to consider:

The built environment and its relationship to philosophy of care;

  • What do we mean by good dementia design?
  • Overcoming the disabilities of dementia through enabling environments
  • How to tackle “homelessness” in residential facilities
  • Improving the environment including the use of audit tools
