National Priorities

Each Centre has been allocated National Priority Areas to ensure the delivery of accessible and relevant dementia education and training.

  • Environmental Design and Assistive Technology (NSW & ACT DTSC)

Services include the provision of tools and consultancy to help in planning new facilities or refurbishing old, lectures and workshops on environmental design and access to information on environmental design and assistive technology.

  • Behaviour Management (QLD DTSC)

Training current and future health professionals to effectively identify and respond to ‘unmet needs’ experienced by people with dementia.

  • Diagnosing Dementia (SA & NT DTSC)

This project develops a range of education resources and tools that support awareness and training for GPs to ensure the implementation of appropriate diagnostic processes for their patients.

  • Person Centred Care (VIC & TAS DTSC)
  • Environmental Design and Assistive Technology (NSW & ACT DTSC)

Services include the provision of tools and consultancy to help in planning new facilities or refurbishing old, lectures and workshops on environmental design and access to information on environmental design and assistive technology.

  • End of Life and Palliative Care (WA DTSC)

To assist the delivery of specialist knowledge, skills, and understanding to care for people with dementia in palliative care.

  • Nurses (NSW & ACT DTSC)

This initiative is focussed on improving the professional standing of registered nurses caring for people with dementia by developing a set of competencies that will assist in their recruitment, education and professional development.

  • Allied Health Professionals (QLD DTSC)

Specialised dementia education and training for allied health professionals, with a focus on social workers, occupational therapists and diversional therapists.

  • Younger Onset Dementia (SA & NT DTSC)

This initiative focuses on the need for education and awareness related to the complexities of care for people with dementia who are under the age of 65.

  • GP’s and Medical Specialists (VIC & TAS DTSC)
  • Culturally and linguistically diverse (WA DTSC)

To increase awareness of the special requirements and understand differing cultural perspectives concerning the care of people with dementia.

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (WA DTSC)

To increase awareness and education of culturally appropriate dementia care for the diverse Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and communities.

  • Knowledge Transfer (NSW & ACT DTSC)

This involves developing ways of bringing the results of research to the awareness of practitioners in all fields related to the care of people with dementia.
