About Queensland

The Queensland Dementia Training Study Centre was established in April 2010 as an innovative collaboration between aged care service providers and universities operating in Queensland.

Led by Queensland University of Technology, the Queensland DTSC provides health professionals and university students with contemporary evidence-based education and training that is highly responsive to issues identified by people living with dementia, their families and the health care workforce.

Our collaborative partner organisations are Blue Care, Griffith University, James Cook University, Queensland University of Technology, RSL Care, Anglicare Southern Queensland, OZCARE and University of Queensland. Each partner organisation has substantial expertise in the design, provision and evaluation of dementia services, education and training. This enables the Queensland DTSC to implement a wide range of dementia education and training activities aimed at building career pathways and strengthening workforce capacity in dementia care.

The Queensland DTSC office is co-located with the Dementia Collaborative Research Centre: Carers and Consumers at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane.

The National Priority Areas for the Queensland DTSC are:

  • Behavioural and psychological symptoms associated with dementia: Training current and future health professionals to effectively identify and respond to ‘unmet needs’ experienced by people with dementia.
  • Allied Health Professionals: Specialised dementia education and training for allied health professionals, with a focus on social workers, occupational therapists and diversional therapists.
