Presented by Assoc Professor Sue Kurrle on 27 November 2012
Treatment of dementia has traditionally focused on the cognitive and behavioural symptoms of the disease, and the physical side is often neglected.
This presentation reviews those physical conditions that occur more commonly in people with dementia than in those without dementia.
These include epilepsy, delirium, falls, frailty, incontinence, malnutrition, sleep disorders, and visual dysfunction, which may all lead to excess disability and reduced quality of life for the person with dementia and their family.
It gives detailed information, practical explanations, and evidence-based recommendations for how to recognise and manage these conditions.
