In the USA the Eden Alternative and the Neighbourhood model have changed the way that aged care is provided. The Neighborhood model is characterised by small groups of elders and care partners living within a small nursing home that honours the daily rhythm of each individual. Employee care partners are consistently assigned so they can develop meaningful relationships with the elder care partners and work as a strong directed team. The models require changes in organizational practices, physical environments, new care partner structures and development of strong, caring relationships at all levels.
