Caring for LGBTI People with Dementia eLearning Course

The South Australian & Northern Territory Dementia Training Study Centre (DTSC) are pleased to announce the release of a new eLearning package, Caring for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) People with Dementia

This eLearning resource has been developed to assist workers across the health and aged care sector to become culturally competent in relation to working with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people with dementia.

This eLearning course has 4 Modules and is targeted at health professionals and staff working in the aged care sector and aims to;

  1. Explore the sexual diversities within the Australian population
    1. To increase awareness of the term LGBTI
    2. To increase knowledge of key terminology
  2. Explore the lived experiences of LGBTI people
    1. To increase understanding of the discrimination experienced by LGBTI people
    2. To awareness of some of the key issues that are still present today for LGBTI people
  3. Highlight some of the considerations of care for older LGBTI people with dementia
    1. To improve awareness of the issues of health and wellbeing for LGBTI people
    2. To increase understanding of the considerations for providing care for LGBTI people
    3. To increase basic awareness of dementia and how it may impact on LGBTI people
  4. Explore how organisations can become more LGBTI inclusive
    1. To raise awareness of the strategies organisations can use to become more culturally inclusive
    2. To increase understanding of the resources that can support organisations to become more LGBTI inclusive

A Certificate of Achievement is available, after successfully completing the course.
