Overview of Presentation

In residential aged care (RAC), dementia-related wandering is reported by carers to result in the intrusion of private space. Known as wandering-related boundary transgression (BT),  this can be troubling to other residents and is associated with potentially hazardous outcomes for the person who wanders. Further, a recent study found that BT is a complex and challenging behaviour to manage in RAC, as carers are unable to anticipate when BT will occur and if the subsequent intrusion would affect others.

Findings from this study will help to develop more effective strategies to manage BT in RAC in the future.
